诺亚课堂 | “绿色”短语知多少？

Hello ！这里是诺亚课堂。今天我们来见识三个“绿色”的短语——

1. To have green fingers

2. The grass is always greener on the other side

3. I'm green with envy

仅仅根据字面的意思，这三个短语翻译出来是这样的：

1. 拥有绿色的手指

2. 草的另一边总是比较绿

3. 我嫉妒得发绿

我们知道有很多短语的含义并不是字面上可以理解的那样，真实的意思在语境中跟大家捉迷藏。那么今天就一起来把它们揪出来。

Ⅰ.To have green fingers. 

注：种植技艺超级好的优秀园丁、种啥啥绿的种植小能手，好似拥有神奇的绿色双手一样，对这种人就可以说：They have green fingers.

例：My mother's really got green fingers，if she planted a pencil it would grow!

我妈的种植技能超级好，即便是一枝铅笔，也能给它种活咯！

Ⅱ.The grass is always greener on the other side.  

注：“别人家的孩子”“这山望着那山高”“外国的月亮比较圆”…的另一个版本，得不到的永远在骚动…

例： I sometimes think I'd be happier teaching in Royal, but you know, the grass is always greener on the other side!

有时候我想在诺亚教书，我可能会更开心一些。但是，你知道，人们总喜欢这山望着那山高！

Ⅲ.I'm green with envy  

注：在英语文化中，绿色可以代表嫉妒。你联想到啥了？想到就想到了，别说出来，不好。

例：And you should see the diamond ring he gave her. It's gorgeous. Howard's gorgeous. And I'm turning green with envy.

你可以看到他送给她的钻石戒指。真是太华丽了，霍华德太好了，我嫉妒得快死了。
